Three-in-one locking system secures military connector, says ODU

Military applications in particular rely on connector system design that is not only flexible but must also offer weight savings, durability, easy handling and fast cleaning without risking the secure transmission of high data volumes. Civilian emergency services and numerous other applications, for example in mining, agriculture and forestry, have come to rely on these qualities in a connector system, said ODU.

It is imperative to ensure the proper functioning of robust materials in extreme and rugged environments and the connector must also withstand temperature fluctuations, dirt, dust, water, vibrations, or extreme pressures. In addition, active protection systems (APS) require heavy-duty, user-friendly, lightweight and space-saving connector systems for use in applications as wide ranging as electronic warfare technology, radar systems, remote-controlled weapon systems, tactical radios, as well as robotic and autonomous systems.

ODU has developed the AMC T (triple) connectors to meet the requirements for connectors in these applications and conditions. They can be pre-assembled in accordance with the respective system requirements, advised ODU.

The connector combine three locking systems in one receptacle. The thread-lock function is suitable for applications that are subjected to extreme vibrations, said ODU and the break-away function enables the connection to be released by manually applying force, allowing quick and easy disconnection in critical situations. The push-pull mechanism reliably locks inside the receptacle and the ball-lock system provides additional support to guarantee interference-free data transmission.

The three-in-one design replaces different interfaces across all systems with a common interface.

Uniform receptacles also reduce the number of interfaces within a given system, especially for connections to sub systems such as cameras, sensors, or weapon systems. In the event of damage, the additional locking options make it easier to maintain and assemble the respective systems in the field in an emergency, advised the company.

Headquartered in Germany, ODU has an international distribution network and production sites in Sibiu, Romania, Shanghai, China and Tijuana, Mexico.

The ODU Group sells its products globally through its sales offices in China, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Korea, Romania, Sweden, UK and the US, as well as international sales partners.
