Torex’s step-down DC/DC converters are automotive-qualified

Coil-integrated, step-down DC/DC converters, the XDL605/XDL606 series of AEC-Q100 compliant, step-down micro DC/DC converters have an integrated coil and control IC.

To construct a DC/DC converter power supply circuit, Torex advises, adding a ceramic capacitor and a resistor for voltage setting to the external components. This can contribute to “substantially reducing space requirements” for board areas. It can also reduce development time. The internal incorporation of the coil simplifies board layout, making it possible to minimise radiation noise and problems with circuit operation.

Input voltage is 3.0 to 36V (absolute maximum ratings 40V) and switching frequency is 2.2MHz. The inbuilt standard supply is 0.75V and the output voltage can be set from 1.8 to 5.0V with an external resistor. The control system can be selected from pulse width modulation (PWM) control (XDL605) or PWM / pulse frequency modulation (PFM) automatic switching control (XDL606).

The soft-start time has been internally set to 2.0ms (typical), but can be optionally set to any desired value by connecting a resistor and capacitor to the EN/SS pin. The power good function makes it possible to monitor the status of the output voltage. Sequence control can be performed with a combination of the soft-start time and power good function.

The coil and control IC are encapsulated in a DFN3625-11B small, leadless package. Exterior dimensions are 2.5 x 3.6mm with a height of just 1.55mm. According to Torex Semiconductor, the XDL605/XDL606 are among the world’s smallest class of coil-integrated DC/DCs which comply with AEC-Q100.

Furthermore, the package uses a wettable flank structure, and fillets are formed at the side of the terminal by this, allowing automatic visual inspections of solder joints to be performed.

The product series also has a line-up of conventional DC / DC converters with an external coil which are XD9267/XD9268 series. Torex Semiconductor therefore offers two standalone DC/DCs and coil-integrated options.
