TVS diode arrays from Littelfuse safeguard HB LED strings

SP1064 series TVS diode arrays from Littelfuse protect hhigh brightness light emitting diodes (HB LEDs), ultra-high definition televisions (UHD TVs), liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and point of sale (PoS) displays from electrostatic discharge (ESD) and electronically fast transients (EFT) damage.

The addition to the SPA Diodes family from Littelfuse is designed to protect each I/O pin of electronic equipment that are subject to ESD or EFTs. The SP1064 Series TVS diode arrays are Zener diodes fabricated using a proprietary silicon avalanche technology. The robust diodes can safely absorb repetitive ESD strikes above the maximum level specified in IEC 61000-4-2 international standard without performance degradation, claims Littelfuse. The low loading capacitance (typically 8.5pF per I/O) also makes them able to protect high speed signal pins.

Typical applications for the SP1064 Series include protection for backlighting and edge lighting solutions for TVs, laptop and desktop computers and displays.

According to Littelfuse, the SP1064 Series TVS diodes offer circuit designers the ability to economically protect strings of up to 15 HB LEDS against ESD and EFT, to lower the overall protection budget while still providing a high level of protection.

SP1064 Series TVS diodes offer a high standoff voltage (up to 60V) to allow them to protect strings of up to 15 HB LEDs.  Each four-line DFN array allows up to four lines of LED strings to be protected. A single four-line device is sufficient for smaller outline displays, while large format displays require just one device per quadrant, says Littelfuse.

At least 15kV contact protection against an 8/20micro sec ESD event enables the SP1064 diodes to provide greater ESD protection than similar TVS diodes on the market, claims the company.

The SP1064 series TVS diodes are available in industry standard, surface mount uDFN-10 packages in tape and reel format in quantities of 3,000. Sample requests can be placed through Littelfuse distributors worldwide.
