Vishay Intertechnology says automotive-grade resistor improves accuracy
The Vishay Dale WSBS8518…14 Power Metal Strip battery shunt resistor offers improved accuracy and corrosion protection, says the company. The 36W WSBS8518…14 has low resistance, down to 50micro-Ohm to increase accuracy compared with Hall-effect current sensors, it claims. Provided in an 8518 case size, with tin plating, designed to assist with PCB mounting, the WSBS8518…14 is also claimed to increase protection against corrosion.
The AEC-Q200-qualified WSBS8518…14 Power Metal Strip battery shunt resistor features a proprietary processing technique that produces extremely low resistance values of 50, 100, 125, and 250micro-Ohm. The low values will allow for more accurate data to determine battery charge and discharge, says Vishay, helping designers meet specific customer battery management requirements for applications in gas, diesel, hybrid, and electric cars and trucks, as well as electric forklifts and other heavy industrial applications.
The WSBS8518…14 features a solid metal manganese-copper alloy resistive element with low temperature co-efficient of resistance (TCR) of ±20ppm/ degree C, and an all-welded construction. The WSBS8518…14 resistor offers low inductance values of up to 5.0nH, low thermal EMF down to 1.0 micro V/degree C, and an operating temperature range of -65 to +170 degree C. The device is RoHS-compliant and halogen-free.
Samples and production quantities of the WSBS8518…14 are available now. Lead time for larger orders is eight to 10 weeks.
Vishay Intertechnology manufactures discrete semiconductors (diodes, MOSFETs, and infra red optoelectronics) and passive electronic components (resistors, inductors, and capacitors). Components produced are used in electronic devices and equipment, in the industrial, computing, automotive, consumer, telecommunications, military, aerospace, power supplies, and medical markets
