Wide contact gap solar relay meets higher isolation requirements

A patented thermal bridge is used in a PCB relay, with wide contact gaps, from Zettler.

The AZSR180 is a single pole, 80A solar relay, designed for PV applications of up to 20kVA (single phase) / 55kVA (three phase). The relay suits medium-sized to larger rooftop-based and commercial systems, up to 4,000m above sea level. It can handle 80A current at an energy efficient holding power of only 100mW and offers a dielectric strength of 5,000V rms. The wide contact gap of over 2.05mm and large isolation spacing above 10mm, support extended requirements for use in photovoltaic applications, says the company.

A thermally-conductive copper bridge connects the two parallel contact springs for level distribution of any excessive heat between the two contacts. Even in the case of a total failure of one of the two parallel-connected contacts, the thermal bridge prevents critical over-heating of the latter contact and destruction of the relay.
