The WSHP2818 has a 10W power rating and is provided in a compact 2818 case size. Resistance is down to just 1-mOhm, adds Vishay.
The automotive-grade Power Metal Strip resistor is claimed to provide the high power (10W) capability of larger resistors in a compact (2818) case size. It is designed to save space and reduce component counts in automotive, industrial, consumer, and computer applications while offering a surface-mount alternative to leaded resistors.
The WSHP2818 features a proprietary construction with an improved thermal management design, resulting in a 10W resistor in a 2818 package size that maintains the electrical characteristics of the Power Metal Strip construction. Its power density enables the AEC-Q200-qualified resistor to be used instead of larger high power components, or multiple lower power devices, to reduce board space requirements and enable the design of smaller and lighter end products.
The WSHP2818 features extremely low resistance values from one to 100-mOhm, with tolerances down to ±0.5 per cent. The WSHP2818’s all-welded construction is particularly suitable for all types of current sensing, voltage division, and pulse applications in automotive engine controls and anti-lock braking systems, brushless DC motor controls, and battery management for electric and hybrid vehicles, as well as down-hole test and measurement equipment, inverter controls for air conditioners and heat pumps and DC/DC converters and for servers.
Vishay Intertechnology’s WSHP2818 resistor features a solid metal nickel-chrome or manganese-copper alloy resistive element with low temperature co-efficient of resistance (TCR): ±20ppm/ degree C, low inductance values of less than 5-nH, low thermal EMF of less than 3.0-microV/ degree C, and an operating temperature range of -65 to +170 degree C. The WSHP2818 is RoHS-compliant and halogen-free.
