Wideband low noise amplifier is offered in surface mount package

Delivered in a surface mount package, designed to ease manufacturing assembly through the use of standard pick-and-place technology, the MAAL-011141 low noise amplifier (LNA) will be showcased by Macom Technology at European Microwave this week (booth 271).

Macom says that the package is optimised to provide low noise figure performance across the DC to 28GHz frequency range. Now available in 5.0mm industry standard AQFN packaging for pick and place assembly, the MAAL-011141 delivers wideband performance for a range of applications, including test and measurement, EW, ECM and radar applications.

The LNA provides flat gain response across the whole band with typical gain of 17.5dB. The input and output are fully matched to 50 Ohm with typical return loss, across the band, of less than 15dB. The MAAL-011141 uses positive gate bias, eliminating the need for a negative voltage supply. The amplifier employs an active termination circuit to achieve superior noise figure performance at the lower end of the frequency range.

Macom’s MAAL-011141 LNAs are available to customers today, in bare-die and packaged formats.

For over 60 years, Macom’s design and applications experts have developed RF, microwave and millimeterwave domain with a broad portfolio of MMICs and components spanning the entire RF signal chain. It leverages advanced, proprietary technologies for heterogeneous semiconductor and packaging.

The company’s semiconductor technologies are used for optical, wireless and satellite networks and Macom powers the infrastructure that millions of users depend on each day to communicate, transact business, travel, stay informed and be entertained.  The company says its technology increases the speed and coverage of the mobile internet and enables fibre optic networks to carry previously unimaginable volumes of traffic to businesses, homes and data centres.

Macom technology also contributes to safety by enabling next-generation radars for air traffic control and weather forecasting, as well as mission success on the modern networked battlefield.
