TE Connectivity introduces terminal blocks for transportation that resist vibration

TE Connectivity is now able to offer an extensive range of connection technologies for transportation following the acquisition of ABB’s Entrelec terminal block business.

From the supply and distribution of power to the connection and protection of signals, the Entrelec terminal blocks are designed to meet a variety of standards for the operation of electronics in harsh environments in transportation applications.

The terminal blocks accommodate railway and marine requirements, such as vibration and shock (IEC61373), temperature variations and corrosive atmospheres (IEC60068) and smoke toxicity (EN45545, HL3-R22, NFPA130). The terminal blocks meet the requirements of marine-related certifications, such as BV Marine, DNV, RINA, RMRS.

For rolling-stock applications, the robust and pull-out resistant HD stud product line has been in service for almost 40 years and is widely used in train coaches and subways worldwide.

For controlling and protecting signaling and safety lines, the Fast-on, ADO System and SNK PI-Spring terminal blocks provide productivity improvements and flexibility. They are designed to offer high connection density together with the installation ease and reliability of screwless technologies.

For passenger and merchant ships and cargos, the D-type power blocks and the SNK Screw/PI-Spring terminal blocks have all passed the damp heat, dry heat and cold tests performed by Bureau Veritas for the IEC60068 standard.

The SNK product line is also compliant with the DNV, RINA and RMRS certifications.

The SNK PI-Spring product line provides push-in/spring terminal blocks that are suitable for installation on trains and boats and also appropriate for offshore oil and gas infrastructures, as they are certified to IEC Ex, ATEX, UL hazardous locations (hazloc), EAC Ex and BR‑Ex.

“TE also provides added value services to our customers, such as pre-assembled and pre-marked terminal blocks mounted with customised accessories, ready to be installed onsite,” said Gael Grenat, global product manager for TE’s Entrelec products.

Added services include software, Grenat added: “Easy Rail Designer is a free configurator that helps customers design their assemblies. The configurator now includes the SNK and Railway specific terminal blocks.”
