Audio modules develop audio DSP projects
Efficient product prototyping, development, and production of a variety of digital audio products is facilitated by the Sharc Audio Module (ADZS-SC589-Mini) developed by Analog Devices.
The audio module combines audio signal processing components and a software development environment. It is suitable for effects processors, multi-channel audio systems, MIDI (musical instrument digital interface) synthesisers, and many other DSP-based audio projects, explains Analog Devices.
As an alternative to the traditional product development investment of selecting components, prototyping a board, and developing a basic software structure before development can begin, the Sharc Audio Module accelerates the process, claims Analog Devices, by providing an audio platform integrating a selection of analogue and digital I/O with a fundamental software package and development environment. The Sharc Audio Module can be used as a self-contained system and can also be expanded, to create custom I/O and control surfaces.
At the centre of the Sharc Audio Module is Analog Devices’ ADSP-SC589 processor, an engine for audio processing, which features two 500MHz Sharc+ DSP cores and an Arm Cortex-A5 core. Connected to the processor is a carefully designed set of system peripherals, including two 2Gbit DDR3 memories and a 512Mbit SPI flash memory, UART, a SigmaDSP ADAU1761 96 kHz, 24-bit audio codec, Gigabit Ethernet, S/PDIF and 1/8-inch stereo jacks, USB OTG and HS, an AD2425W A2B multi-channel audio interface and two 64-pin expansion connectors.
Analog Devices is also offering an expansion board, called a Fin, which provides additional functionality. The Audio Project Fin (ADZS-AudioProject) is a MIDI and musical instrument/FX daughter card that provides a control surface with 0.25-inch stereo I/O, additional connectivity, and expanded signal accessibility for the Sharc Audio Module.
The Sharc Audio Module allows developers to focus on their own algorithm and user interface development using a compact, base platform with an optimised software and tools ecosystem.
