Medically approved 5W DC/DC converter saves PCB space.

With a power density of 26W/in3, XP Power says that its 5W rated, IMM05 converter, packaged in an SIP-9, occupies 65 per cent less PCB area than competing products. It has a low 2.0 microA leakage current, suitable for medical BF and CF applications.

Approved for worldwide 60601-1 medical applications, the IMM05 features a 2:1 input range, 1500V AC isolation, and one MOPP at 250Vrms. The converter operates over a temperature range of -20 to 100 degrees C, with a full load capability to 60 degrees C.

The IMM05 draws a low standby current of 2.5mA when inhibited, with standard control and protection features including remote on/off, output short circuit and overload protection. The converter is small, measuring 26 x 9.3 x 12.5mm for the SIP-9 packaged IMM05, to minimise PCB space and allow room to add extra features, or reduce the overall size of the end product.

A range of models is available with three input voltage ranges covering 4.5 to 9.0V, 9.0 to 18.0V and18.0 to 36.0V and four single output models of 3.3, 5.0, 12 and 15V and two dual output models of +/- 12 and +/-15V.

XP Power offers a three-year warranty and believes that the IMM05, which is approved for healthcare applications, is competitively priced for instrumentation, diagnostics and distributed power architectures where medical approval is required.

The series is available from Digi-Key, element14, Farnell, RS Components, approved regional distributors, or direct from XP Power.
