Use Case Tracker technology identifies optimal flash storage
Users can track and analyse the way an application uses flash memory, with Use Case Tracker technology from Hyperstone. Manufacturers can use it to identify the most optimal flash storage technology for any use case.
NAND flash management tracks and analyses a use case. Data is gathered in the field and analysed to provide recommendations customised to a specific use case.
Tracking is via a firmware extension to the hySMART tool. The data (sequential and random read patterns, the size of data transfers and the total volume of data written and read) is generated by traffic between the host and the memory, captured and stored on a standard memory card. hySMART software analyses the data to determine the optimal NAND flash configuration for that use case.
The behavioural data captured provides workload statistics that can be entered into Hyperstone’s Life Time Estimation Tool (LTET) to enable the optimal selection of NAND flash. This could be used to determine storage systems in telecomms, medical and automotive applications as well as in the IoT, point of sale and gaming. Hyperstone points out that it can also be beneficial in industrial automation, transport, security and energy.
Hyperstone is a fabless semiconductor company based in Konstanz, Germany, focused on flash memory controllers for industrial embedded markets. Its products include microcontrollers for various host interfaces and performance points, e.g. SATA, USB, CF/PATA, SD/microSD and eMMC. Flash controller firmware is supplied complementary to the controllers and customised for each flash and application.
