Waterproof M23 connectors operate at depths up to 5m

Circular M23 connectors from Smiths Interconnect are qualified for submersible motor and pump applications. They are equipped with Hypertac hyperboloid contact technology, used in industrial markets for medical and other applications that encounter rough and corrosion-prone conditions, for example in the food and beverage, chemical or maritime industries.

Industrial underwater applications require interconnection with the same high electrical and mechanical reliability levels and durability that are expected under dry conditions. Smiths Interconnect’s M23 cable connectors have been tested and qualified to meet IP68 sealing requirements for operation to a depth of 5m, over a period of 72 hours. These tests show that M23 connectors are able to perform while preventing water ingress for a longer duration and to a greater depth than previously established, says the company.

The sealed M23 connector has stable electrical and mechanical continuity, ensuring failure-free performance. They are also engineered to provide “excellent shock and vibration resistance in other extreme conditions, such as chemical, aggressive gas, and polluted environments, as well as resistance to oxidation, corrosion, and acid,” says Smiths.

Smiths Interconnect provides electronic components, subsystems, microwave and radio frequency products that connect, protect and control critical applications in the commercial aviation, defence, space, medical, rail, semiconductor test, wireless telecommunications and industrial market segments. Smiths Interconnect is part of Smiths Group, a global technology group delivering products and services for the medical, security and defence, general industrial, energy and space and commercial aerospace market segments worldwide. Smiths Group employs approximately 22,000 people in over 50 countries.
