Linear ReDriver meets needs of next-generation video applications

The HDMI 2.1 transparent, linear ReDriver optimised for power and cost in digital TVs, laptop and desktop computers, VR devices, and gaming consoles, is now available from Diodes Incorporated.

Designed to support video resolutions up to 10K, the PI3HDX12211 is the  first in the industry to comply with HDMI 2.1, says the company. Supporting speeds of up to 12Gbits per second per channel, the PI3HDX12211 is transparent to channel link training, rate, and coding. It offers ultra-low signal latency for signal integrity in high-performance applications.

HDMI 2.1 is the latest update to the HDMI specification, intended to enable  higher video resolutions and refresh rates. Bandwidth is increased to 48Gbits per second, making it possible to deliver uncompressed 8K video with HDR.

The transparent nature of the PI3HDX12211 means it is agnostic to protocol, supporting both static and dynamic HDR. Devices that implement HDMI 2.1 transmit static/dynamic HDR metadata over the interface. The PI3HDX12211 features four differential channels with programmable linear equalisation, output swing linearity, and flat gain controlled through an I2C interface or pin-strapping.

Operating from a 3.3V supply, the PI3HDX12211 dissipates 220mW per channel and maintains a 1200mV peak-to-peak, output swing linearity. As higher video resolutions develop, the PI3HDX12211 will enable the latest visual experience in laptop and desktop PCs, gaming consoles, and DTVs and STBs, as well as docking stations and peripherals.

The PI3HDX12211 is supplied in the 42-contact TQFN package priced at $1.55 each in 3000 piece quantities.
