Infineon introduces 50 and 60mm modules for drives and UPS

Thyristor/diode modules available from Infineon Technologies Bipolar now include Prime Block 50mm modules, with solder bond technology, and 60mm modules, with pressure contact technology. They are designed for applications when the desired current exceeds 600A for a 60mm footprint or 330A for a 50mm footprint. Prime Block modules are suitable for industrial AC and DC drives as well as for rectifiers and bypasses in uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).

Both modules have been optimised for better thermal resistance and higher operational temperatures, says Infineon. As a result, the Prime Block achieves the highest power density in its respective footprint without compromising reliability. The pressure contact modules are claimed to provide best-in-class blocking stability; the solder bond modules undergo an x-ray monitoring after the soldering process.

The variant in the 60mm standard housing is supplied in thyristor/thyristor and thyristor/diode topologies, with a blocking voltage of either 1,600 or 2,200V and in current ratings from 700 to 820A. The 50mm standard housing variant is offered in thyristor/thyristor, thyristor/diode and diode/diode topologies. Its blocking voltage stands at 1,600, 1,800 and 2,200 and the modules support up to 390A.

The 50 and 60mm Prime Block family is available now. The next portfolio extension will support customers with pre-applied thermal interface material (TIM) to keep production lines fast and clean. Additionally it improves thermal behaviour, says Infineon.
