30V p-channel MOSFET saves energy in portable devices

Offering just 3.5mOhm resistance at 10V, the 30V p-channel TrenchFET Gen IV power MOSFET from Vishay Siliconix is supplied in a thermally enhance PowerPAK 1212-8S package which measures just 3.3 x 3.3mm.

The SiSS05DN’s thermally enhanced PowerPAK 1212-8S package, is also claimed to have best in class on-resistance times gate charge of 172mOhm *nC for switching applications. To increase power density, the space-saving SiSS05DN is 65 per cent smaller than devices with similar on-resistance in 6.0 x 5.0mm packages, says Vishay.

The SiSS05DN’s on-resistance is 26 per cent lower than the previous-generation solution and 35 per cent lower than the next best product on the market, claims Vishay, and its figure of merit is 15 per cent lower than the closest competing device. As a result, the MOSFET has reduced conduction and switching losses to save energy and to increase battery run times in portable electronics while minimising voltage drops across the power path to prevent false triggering.

In addition, the compact form factor is easier to fit into designs with limited PCB real estate.

It has an industry-standard footprint size to provide a drop-in upgrade to existing parts in applications using 5.0 to 20V input rails. The MOSFET can be used for adapter and load switches, reverse polarity protection and motor drive control in battery-powered devices, battery chargers, consumer electronics, computers and telecomms equipment.

The device is 100 per cent RG- and UIS-tested, RoHS-compliant, and halogen-free.

Samples and production quantities of the SiSS05DN are available now, with lead times of 12 weeks subject to market conditions.

Vishay Intertechnology manufactures discrete semiconductors (diodes, MOSFETs, and infrared optoelectronics) and passive electronic components (resistors, inductors, and capacitors). These components are used in virtually all types of electronic devices and equipment, in the industrial, computing, automotive, consumer, telecommunications, military, aerospace, power supplies, and medical markets.
