Automotive IC transfers DisplayPort signals through USB Type-C connector

Believed to be the industry’s first automotive AEC-Q100 grade 3-qualified 10Gbits per second USB-C DisplayPort Alternate (DP-Alt) mode linear ReDriver IC, the PI3DPX1207Q has been introduced by Diodes.

The DP-Alt mode allows the transfer of DisplayPort signals through a USB Type-C connector. The IC supports 8.1Gbits per second DP1.4 and 10Gbits per second USB 3.2 specifications to provide a transparent, protocol-agnostic ReDriver capability for automotive infotainment systems and cluster display panels.

The DP-Alt ReDriver offers low latency and signal integrity characteristics for up to 8k display resolutions and is entirely transparent to channel link training. Each of the four-to-four linear differential channels is controllable via I2C commands, including equalisation, gain, and output swing. Controls also include adjusting signal integrity settings for compensation and removing inter symbol interference jitter. An integrated aux switch and aux listener can monitor for DisplayPort power down commands or a power-down instruction via the I2C interface.

The PI3DPX1207Q is supplied in a 42-TQFN package, supports PPAP and is manufactured in Diode’s IATF16949-certified facilities.

The ReDriver IC has already been specified by Qualcomm Technologies in its Snapdragon Automotive Development Platform (ADP) for infotainment applications. The Snapdragon ADP is based on the company’s third generation Qualcomm Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit Platform.
