Murata develops multilayer ceramic capacitor for smaller, thinner mobile devices
Believed to be the world’s smallest, laminated multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs), the GRM022R60G105ME01 and GRM022R60J105M have a capacitance value of 1.0 microF in the 01005 inch size (0402M). They measure just 0.4 x 0.2 x 0.2mm.
The GRM022R60G105ME01 has a rated voltage of 4V DC and the GRM022R60J105M has a rated voltage of 6.3V DC.
Up to 1,100 MLCCs with a capacitance of 1.0 microF can be used in a single smartphone, reports Murata. These MLCCs have been developed to satisfy the demand for smaller, thinner mobile electronics and enable the further miniaturisation of electronic devices like smartphones and wearable devices.
Murata reports that its proprietary thin layer technology for ceramic elements and thin-sheet formation technology contributes to a 35 per cent reduction in footprint and a 50 per cent reduction in volume ratio, compared with Murata’s existing product with the same capacitance value.
The GRM022R60G105ME01 is already in mass production and the GRM022R60J105M will be in mass production in 2021.
