AQ1210D OTDR is for single and multi-mode networks, says Yokogawa
For intra and inter-building, campus and data centre network applications, the AQ1210D dual purpose optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) is an affordable four-wavelength instrument for both single-mode and multi-mode fibre networks, says Yokogawa.
It is part of the AQ1210 series and meets the demands of small and medium-sized contractors for the installation and maintenance of short-distance networks within and between buildings.
Yokogawa’s latest OTDR is the first in its portfolio of multi-field testers to offer four wavelengths of 1310/1550nm (single mode fibre or SMF) and 850/1300nm (multi-mode fibre or MMF).
The AQ1210D offers complete testing capabilities in a compact and light package, Yokogawa says. The SMF dynamic range of 37/35dB is optimal for inter-building and short-distance networks found in fibre to the building (FBB), point-to-point optical link, and data centre interconnect (DCI) applications, says Yokogawa.
The MMF dynamic range of 25/27dB is suitable for intra-building networks to suit LAN, private, enterprise, campus, and data centre deployments.
The short event dead zone (MMF 0.5 m) and attenuation dead zone (MMF 2.5 m) identifying/separating the connectors of short fibre cable used commonly in intra-building MMF networks.
The integral-type AQ1210D OTDR features a 5.7-inch display and weighs approximately 1kg. The form factor compares favourably with modular-type units, making it suitable for use on project sites where fast and easy characterisation of optical fibres is essential.
It has a rugged casing to measure fibre links and the location of breaks in construction environments as well as identify points of high loss, high reflectance, end-to-end loss and ORL (optical return loss).
