Cree delivers SiC power modules for scalable power systems

WolfPack modules make up the latest family of silicon carbide (SiC) power modules from Cree. They are designed for industrial power markets, including electric vehicle (EV) fast charging, renewable energy and energy storage and industrial power applications.

The WolfPack modules are based on 1200V Wolfspeed MOSFET technology.

SiC-based power modules enable faster, lighter, smaller and more powerful electrical systems, compared to silicon, advocates Cree. The WolfPack SiC modules maximise power density while simplifying designs in a standard form factor, explains the company. This allows a “significant” acceleration in the production and rollout of next-generation technology for a range of industrial markets, including off-board charging and solar energy, it says. The modules bridges the gap between single die discrete components and high-ampacity modules.

Jay Cameron, senior vice president and general manager, Wolfspeed Power, said: “Maximising power density while minimising design complexity is essential for engineers working in the mid-power range, and the new modules simplify layouts to help accelerate production of EV fast charging and solar infrastructures.”

The WolfPack power modules deliver the highest rated current topologies commercially available, says Cree, for compact footprints that reduce system size, complexity and costs. The modules are available in half bridge and six pack configurations with a variety of on-resistance options.
