USB Type-C PCB plug gives designers the edge for docking options
To make the best use of the PCB thickness within the profile of a connector, GCT has introduced an edge mount USB Type-C plug which provides design engineers with greater options for docking solutions and plug-in external dongle devices.
The USB4155 is a slim (2.9mm profile) mid-mounted connector has an external metal case and provides EMI / RFI protection. The design also eliminates external forces being transmitted to the PCB solder joint, claims the company.
The plug has two rows of SMT contacts for soldering on one side of the PCB and two PCB shell stakes for shell grounding and retention on the PCB.
The horizontal USB4155 complements the vertical USB4151 plug and other connectors in the GCT range. The company says it offers connectors for any USB Type-C application in any orientation.
Ideas and solutions for jig designs using a right-angle plug are provided in the drawing. GCT offers 3D models and PCB footprints which are free to download, for digital evaluation and simulation to support integration into a customer’s design.
The USB4155 is now available through GCT’s global distribution network of distributors, including Digi-Key Electronics and Mouser Electronics, for immediate shipping.
