RF amplifiers operate in harsh conditions
Amplifier ICs from Ampleon are based on the company’s Advanced Rugged Technology (ART). The heavy-duty design of the ART1K6PH ICs enables them to operate in the harshest of operational conditions, said the company.
The ICs in the ART1K6x series have ratings of 1,400 and 1,600W ratings and operate over a frequency range from 1.0 to 450MHz. A high breakdown voltage allows them to be used in 48V for Class E and 55V Class AB applications (the maximum VDS figure supported is 177V). The amplifiers can cope with a 65:1 voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) to alleviate potential load mismatch issues. The high impedance levels that the LDMOS amplifiers exhibit helps to reduce power losses and so “significantly lower” currents are required, added the company. Less heat also needs to be dissipated, which reduces the associated thermal management overhead and keeps system bill of materials (BoM) costs to a minimum.
The ART1K6PH (G) amplifiers are each supplied in an OMP-1230 straight lead or gull wing package, while the ART1K6FH devices are in SOT539AN packages. All amplifiers have a dual-sided electro-static discharge (ESD) protection mechanism.
The amplifiers can be used for plasma generators, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems, CO2 lasers and particle accelerators as well as broadcasting and wireless communications.
