Automotive BLDC pre-driver IC supports ASIL-D
Automotive applications, including electric power steering (EPS) systems and electric brakes are served by the TB9083FTG three-phase automotive brushless DC (BLDC) motor driver IC. It is available from Toshiba Electronics Europe and supports functional safety in automotive design.
It is a three-phase gate driver for external N-channel power MOSFETs that are used to drive a three-phase BLDC motor. The TB9083FTG complies with ISO 26262 2nd edition and supports up to the highest functional safety grade at the ASIL-D level. Functional safety standards such as ISO 26262 are designed to minimise risk from system failures in safety-critical automotive systems, for example steering and braking systems. The TB9083FTG includes array built-in self test (ABIST) and logic built-in self test (LBIST) self-diagnosis and is supplied with an ASIL safety manual and safety reports.
The driver is capable of operating with PWM (pulse width modulation) signals up to 20kHz and includes three pre-driver channels for safety relays and a built-in amplifier for motor current detection (with six options for the gain setup). Communication is via a CRC (cyclical redundancy cycle) -enabled SPI bus.
The TB9083FTG is suitable for automotive environments and is able to operate down to -40 degrees C and up to a maximum ambient (Ta) of +150 degrees C or a maximum junction temperature (Tj) of +175 degrees C. The device is undergoing AEC-Q100 qualification.
The driver’s small P-VQFN48-0707-0.50-005 package measures 7.0 x 7.0mm footprint to reduce the total PCB mounting area. The package also incorporates wettable flanks for automotive quality inspection.
Currently, test samples are shipping and final samples will ship in January 2022. Mass production is scheduled for December 2022.
