Magnachip produces OLED DDIC for OLED TVs
Full scale production of organic light emitting diode display driver ICs (OLED DDICs) has been announced by Magnachip Semiconductor. According to the company, there has been an increased demand for large, HD TVs, in response to the rise of streaming and console gaming usage.
According to Omdia, the compound annual growth rate of global OLED TV panel shipments is forecast to grow 14 per cent from 7.4 million units in 2021 to 12.7 million units in 2025. This trend is expected to increase the demand for high-performance OLED DDIC solutions.
Magnachip’s DDIC for UHD OLED TVs is based on enhanced high-voltage analogue process technology.
It supports a maximum of 960 source output channels and, coupled with a chip on film (CoF) package and high speed serial interface, it is suitable for UHD OLED TVs. It supports various resolutions between HD (1,366 x 768) and UHD 4K (3,840 x 2,160) and can be applied to different sizes of panels, ranging from 40 to 80 inches.
In addition to OLED DDICs for large-sized displays, Magnachip says its diverse portfolio address a wide range of applications including IT and automobiles.
