Littelfuse claims first automotive-grade fuse rated to 1,000V DC
Intended for electric vehicle (EV) power system applications which require robust over-current protection in harsh environments, Littelfuse introduced the EV1K series fuse, claiming it is the first 1,000V DC automotive-grade protection device for passenger cars and commercial EVs.
Fuses in the series are designed and tested to meet the over-current circuit protection needs of the EVs’ high voltage power supplies. They are suitable for use in on-board chargers (OBCs), battery distribution units (BDUs), battery packs, DC/DC converters, traction motor inverters and auxiliary loads.
“There is a clear need for more robust safety solutions as the e-Mobility market transitions from 500 to 800V DC pack voltages,” said Juergen Scheele, vice president, Business Development xEV/AEB at Littelfuse. The EV1K series fuses are designed to withstand severe automotive environments, providing 1,000 V DC rated automotive-grade solutions ranging from 60 to 125A. Fuses up to 600A are also under development, added Scheele.
Key benefits offered by the EV1K series fuse include a compact body size of 25 x 73mm with end caps incorporating integrated bolt-down terminals for a housing which is durable against mechanical vibration and shock. It also increases product life and longevity, claimed Littelfuse.
Operating temperature ranges from -55 C to +125 degrees C and the design also provides humidity resistance.
The series of environmentally-friendly fuses are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and 100% Pb (lead) -free.
The EV1K series fuse is available now. Sample requests can be placed through authorised Littelfuse distributors worldwide.
