VinaTech combines high power output with high energy density in single capacitor
Hybrid capacitors combine the high power output, safety and eco-friendliness of a supercapacitor with the high energy density of a battery, says VinaTech. The company has introduced the VPC (Vina Pulse Capacitor) which are designed to replace a battery as the main power source in a TV remote control.
The hybrid capacitors have an energy density that is about 10 times higher than that of a supercapacitor of the same size, says VinaTech.
A supercapacitor is suitable for instantaneous high power output. While it offers high speed charging and discharging, a long lifespan and a wide operating temperature range, it has less energy density than a battery. VinaTech explains that its VPCs has a faster charging and discharging speed than batteries and operates in a wide temperature range of -25 to +85 degrees C, but, unlike batteries, there is no risk of fire or explosion with a VPC.
VPCs are made of eco-friendly materials which help to minimise carbon emissions in the production to disposal lifecycle and are also eco-friendly in that they have a charging / discharging lifespan of more than 50,000 cycles. This is 100 times longer than for batteries, observes VinaTech.
The VPCs have been specified by Samsung Electronics for the solar cell TV remote control for its recently introduced Neo QLED TV. It marks the first time, says VinaTech, that a hybrid capacitor has replaced the battery as the main power source in a TV remote.
The Eco Remote uses the VinaTech VPC hybrid capacitor and energy-harvesting technology, which enables charging to take place even in the dark.
VinaTech manufactures supercapacitors and hydrogen fuel cell parts based on its proprietary carbon technology. The company is located in South Korea.
