DataStudio software connects data across design to test workflows

According to NI, its latest release, DataStudio is design-to-test analytics software bridges critical data across the semiconductor design and test workflow. It provides the foundation for secure and scalable engineering data to accelerate the pace of wireless, semiconductor and electronics innovation, added the company.

The first application in DataStudio is Specification Compliance Manager (SCM). This manages device specifications, connects to measurement data sources and automatically generates compliance reports. DataStudio SCM provides a comprehensive view of the device’s conformance to target specifications, for better decision making and reporting. It also leverages data which is often lost across design, validation and production test silos. A comprehensive data infrastructure allows engineers to gain clear and actionable insights to improve productivity and reduce the manual effort required during chip development, argued NI.

The company also launched the DataStudio Bench Data Connector (BDC) validation bench test library. This provides a standardised way to store validation data that is automatically compatible with the DataStudio SCM. It is therefore easy to import bench measurement data into the compliance reporting software.

Design and test automation generates a large volume of data, which can be used to enable better project visibility and decision making, explained Ritu Favre, vice president and general manager of the Semiconductor and Electronics business unit at NI. “The volume of data and the pressure to use that data is immense, and our customers are looking for solutions to work across the whole flow now,” she added.

To debug a device using simulators, it is difficult to tell where the problem lies if prototypes if they are not meeting all the specifications. It may be that a part is defective, or the manufacturing process was not correct or it may be a fundamental flaw in the design. “To debug that, engineers must work against these different silos, using different tools from different vendors with different data sets,” Favre said, adding that DataStudio is breaking down those barriers.

The software is available in both on-premise and in-the-cloud deployment and operates from product definition to verification, validation and production test to accelerate the design flow, said NI.
