Diodes minimises power dissipation in DMOS transistor array

The ULN62003A DMOS transistor array from Diodes consists of seven 500mA-rated open-drain transistors, where all their sources are connected to a common ground pin. The high current transistor is capable of driving a variety of loads, such as solenoids, relays, DC motors and LED displays, particularly in climate control and home appliance designs. The ULN62003A is also suitable for use in washing machines, dryers, microwave ovens and air conditioning units.

Fabricated with DMOSFET output transistors, the ULN62003A has an output voltage drop of just 0.2V. This is far lower than the bipolar devices with which it is pin-compatible, said Diodes. The reduction in power dissipation not only minimises overall power usage but also mitigates thermal issues and improves reliability, assed the company. It also allows more devices to be controlled while still maintaining the desired die temperature.

The device supports input voltages down to -1V and allows the ground pin to be used for detecting over-current situations opening up the possibility for use in more applications. There are clamping diodes on each of the transistor array’s outputs for protection and to improve reliability when driving inductive loads.

The ULN62003A is supplied in a SO-16 package.

Diodes delivers semiconductor products to companies in the consumer electronics, computing, communications, industrial, and automotive markets. Its product portfolio of discrete, analogue, and mixed-signal products and  packaging technology are used in application-specific products. The company has worldwide operations of 32 sites, including engineering, testing, manufacturing, and customer service.
