Navitas Semiconductor and Avnet Silica partner to expand GaN power ICs
Distributor, Avnet Silica, an Avnet company has announced a partnership with GaN power IC and SiC power device manufacturer, Navitas Semiconductor. The two companies will work to promote and support GaN across the EMEA region.
GaN is growing in importance because of its ability to offer significantly improved performance over conventional silicon semiconductors, while also reducing the energy and physical space needed to deliver that performance, explained Avnet. It runs up to 20 times faster than silicon and can also enable up to three times more power handling or three times faster charging capability, as well as its size advantages, leading to potentially 20 per cent lower system cost for designers, engineers and power system architects.
Navitas’ GaNFast power ICs with GaNSense technology integrate power, drive, and control capability, with autonomous protection and loss-less current sensing in small footprints and fast power conversion performance.
The company’s GaNSense half-bridge ICs enable AC/DC power supplies to achieve MHz switching frequencies in a range of soft-switching applications.
