Nexperia doubles SOA with hotswap ASFETs
The ASFET (application specific MOSFET) portfolio has been extended by Nexperia to include the ASFETs for Hotswap and Soft Start portfolio. At last week’s electronica, the company introduced 10 25 and 30V devices, which are claimed ot have industry-leading enhanced safe operating area (SOA) performance with extremely low RDS(on). According to Nexperia, they are suitable for use in 12V hotswap applications including data centre servers and communications equipment.
Nexperia’s ASFETs in which critical MOSFET performance characteristics are enhanced to meet the requirements of particular applications have been used in products optimised for battery isolation, DC motor control, power over Ethernet (PoE) and automotive airbag applications.
For hotswap applications which can be vulnerable to in-rush currents, Nexperia has designed a portfolio of ASFETs for Hotswap and Soft Start with enhanced SOA. The PSMNR67-30YLE ASFET delivers 2.2x stronger SOA (12V at 100ms) than previous technologies, reported Nexperia, while having an RDS(on) (max) as low as 0.7mOhm. The Spirito effect (represented by the steeper downward slope found on SOA curves at higher voltages) has been eliminated, while performance is maintained across the full voltage and temperature range (compared to unoptimised devices), reported the company.
Nexperia has removed the need to thermally de-rate designs, by characterising these new devices at 125 degrees C and providing hot SOA datasheet curves.
The company has announced eight new devices (three 25V and five 30V). They are available in a choice of LFPAK56 and LFPAK56E packages with RDS(on) ranging from 0.7 to 2.0mOhm. These parameters ensure the majority of hotswap and soft start applications are addressed, confirmed Nexperia.
Two additional 25V products (which will have an even lower RDS(on) of 0.5mOhm) are planned for release over the coming months.
Nexperia produces an extensive portfolio which includes diodes, bipolar transistors, ESD protection devices, MOSFETs, GaN FETs and analogue and logic ICs.
Headquartered in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, Nexperia annually ships more than 100 billion products, meeting the stringent standards set by the automotive industry.
Nexperia has over employees across Asia, Europe and the USA. The company is a subsidiary of Wingtech Technology and has an extensive IP portfolio. It is certified to IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
