PressFit pin locking secures power modules for on-board charging

Specifically designed for on-board charging in vehicles, seven MOSFET and diode power modules by Vishay Intertechnology feature a variety of circuit configurations in a compact EMIPAK 1B package. They also have PressFit pin locking technology to secure mounting to the PCB.

There is a variety of circuit configurations, combining high efficiency, fast body diode MOSFETs and SiC, FRED Pt, and MOAT diode technologies in the EMIPAK 1B package.

Circuit configurations are designed for AC/DC, DC/DC, and DC/AC conversion in on-board charging applications, with I/O bridges, full-bridge inverters and power factor correction (PFC), and across a wide range of power ratings. 

The modules comply with the automotive guideline, AQG-324 and can be combined to provide on-board charging for electric and hybrid electric vehicles (EVs and HEVs). They are also  suitable for e-scooters, agricultural equipment and railway use, advised Vishay.

Based on a matrix approach, the devices’ EMIPAK package can accommodate a range of custom circuit configurations in the same 63 x 34 x 12mm footprint. This enables higher power density than using discrete solutions, said Vishay, while providing the flexibility to use each module in different power stages for industrial and renewable energy applications. They can be used in welding, plasma cutting, UPS, solar inverters and wind turbines, for example. 

The exposed AI2O3 direct bonded copper (DBC) substrate improves thermal performance, and the layout is optimised to minimise stray inductance for better EMI performance. 

According to Vishay, the modules’ PressFit pin locking technology allows for easy PCB mounting and reduces mechanical stress on the substrate, while their baseless structure increases reliability by reducing the number of solder interfaces. 

The VS-ENK025C65S is a dual boost PFC MOSFET and full-bridge MOSFET inverter, the VS-ENV020F65U module integrates six Ultrafast rectifier legs for output rectification, the VS-ENW30S120T module integrates full-bridge SiC diodes, the VS-ENY050C60 is a full-bridge inverter MOSFET, there are six independent diode legs for AC line input rectification in the VS-ENV020M120M module, the VS-ENM040M60P is a half-controlled input bridge with boost PFC leg MOSFET and half-bridge inverter MOSFET and the VS- is a double interleaved bridgeless PFC (four channels) with individual return diodes.

Samples of seven power modules are available now. Production quantities are available with lead times of 26 weeks.
