RF connector extends Amphenol RF’s plating range
When an application in demanding environments require a more ruggedised connector, Amphenol RF has added and SMA connector to its alternate plating portfolio. The SMA bulkhead jack is a waterproof, IP67-rated connector designed to terminate to flexible, low-loss LMR 400 cable.
In addition to standard SMA interface features, the connector offers an extra layer of protection that guards against harsh external elements. The brass body is coated in tin nickel plating which is validated for up to 720 hours of corrosive resistance when in contact with direct exposure to salt spray. There is also a gold-plated, brass contact. RF performance is up to 6GHz.
Bulkhead connectors are intended to be inserted into an enclosure and tightened with a lock washer and nut. The IP67 ingress protection is achieved using specialized o-rings and gaskets surrounding the dielectric and centre contact to prevent damage to costly internal components.
Intended for extreme exposures, the SMA interconnect is the latest in the company’s portfolio of ruggedised interconnect for demanding conditions and as such is suitable marine GPS, remote base stations and environmental measurement equipment.
Amphenol RF manufactures coaxial connectors for use in radio frequency, microwave, and data transmission system applications. Headquartered in Danbury, Connecticut, USA, Amphenol RF has sales, marketing and manufacturing locations in North America, Asia and Europe.
Standard products include RF connectors, coaxial adapters and RF cable assemblies. Custom engineered products include multi-port ganged interconnect, blind mate and hybrid mixed-signal solutions.
