Arm Cortex-M0+ general purpose MCUs will number 100 by year-end
The announcement of the MSPM0 MCU portfolio offers a 32-bit general purpose MCU for almost any application, said Texas Instruments.
The scalable Arm Cortex-M0+ MCU (microcontroller) portfolio includes a range of computing, pinout, memory and integrated analogue options. Initially, TI has introduced dozens of MCUs, all supported by intuitive software and design tools. The company has said that it plans more than 100 MCUs to be introduced this year to create “the industry’s most comprehensive offering of Arm Cortex-M0+ MCUs”.
The MSPM0 MCU portfolio allows designers to spend more time innovating and less time evaluating and coding and therefore reducing design time from months to days, said TI.
The Arm Cortex-M0+ based MCUs expand the company’s semiconductor offering with options for general-purpose designs,” said Vinay Agarwal, vice president, MSP microcontrollers, Texas Instruments. “Our new MCUs provide the flexibility our customers need to enhance the sensing and control capabilities of their systems while cutting cost, complexity and design time,” he said.
Designers can select from a wide range of computing options from 32 to 80MHz with math acceleration and multiple configurations of integrated analogue signal chain components, including the industry’s first zero-drift operational amplifier on an MCU, claimed TI. There are also precision 12-bit, 4MSPS ADCs.
MSPM0 MCUs can help save months of design time with software, design support resources and coding tools, said TI. In addition to graphical tools that streamline device configuration which are created to help designers code once and then scale across future MSPM0-based designs, there is also the MSPM0 software development kit. This provides a cohesive experience that includes a wide variety of drivers, libraries, over 200 easy-to-use code examples and subsystem reference designs.
MSPM0L and MSPM0G MCUs are available now. These MCUs are available in multiple package sizes with 16- to 64-pin package options and flash memory options ranging from 16kbyte to 128kbyte.
