Embedded computer for the rail industry has been designed for reliability
MPL has engineered the PIP40 fanless embedded computer from the ground up to meet the restrictions of the rail industry. It is EN 50155 certified to Class Tx and IEC 60945-verified by an external test lab. The rugged computer is based on ninth generation Intel CPUs and designed for high reliability, said the company.
The PIP40’s design is based on MPL’s 38 years of experience in the field of low power engineering and is designed for long-term availability. To ensure this, MPL designs and manufactures the products 100 per cent in Switzerland. All components are stocked in-house to guarantee that the products can be supported and repaired, even years after the product’s end of life.
The members of the PIP40 family start with Intel Xeon and offer i7, i3 and Celeron CPUs. The embedded computer also offers up to 64Gbyte registered DDR4 memory and some models are equipped with ECC DDR4. Depending on the module, there is a choice of m.2 Key-A (USB 2.0, USB 3.0, mSATA, SATA 3.0 or SATA SSD or NVMe, PCIe 2 or PCIe 4, Wi-Fi, LTE or LTE 2 and up to seven LAN ports. There are also four RS-232 or RS422 / 485 (optional) ports. Expansion capabilities consist of general purpose GPU on MXM or PCIe, for example Raid, AI, graphics or XMC modules.
In addition to EN50155 certification and environmental testing to ensure reliable performance under a variety of conditions, the embedded computer systems are tested for operation at temperatures from -40 to +85 degrees C, for the Tx in the EN 50155 standard. It also includes EMC and mechanical tests for railway operation.
MPL said all of its products are designed for long-term availability and the PIP40 family will be available for at least 10 years. MPL’s own component stock guarantees repairs for up to 20 years. Extended temperature ranges can be fulfilled and are tested in MPL’s own climatic chambers according to customer’s request.
In addition to EN50155 and IEC 60945 standards, the PIP40 meets or exceeds EN 55022, EN 55024, EN 61000, MIL-STD-461E, EN 60068, MIL-STD-810G, EN 60601, EN 60950, CE, IACS and E10.
MPL AG is located in Switzerland and was founded in 1985. Its robust, low power consumption and fanless products are designed from scratch to succeed in extended temperature and meeting the high demands of rugged environments.
