Digital isolators offer best-in-class efficiency, says Infineon
Digital isolators include an optimised system bill of materials (BoM) and reduced PCB area as well as accurate timing characteristics with lower power consumption. They also offer improved common-mode transient immunity (CMTI), certified insulation life, integrated features and output enable options, said Infineon Technologies as it launched its first generation of ISOFACE dual-channel digital isolators to meet the growing demand for robust high-voltage isolation. The devices are pin-to-pin compatible with other suppliers’ portfolios.
The ISOFACE 2DIBx4xxF dual-channel digital isolators have been added to Infineon’s portfolio of isolation products for servers, telecomms and industrial SMPS, industrial automation systems, motor control and drives, energy storage systems and solar inverters. Based on Infineon’s patented coreless transformer (CT) isolation technology, the ICs offer multiple channel configurations, fail-safe default output states, variable or fixed input thresholds, and output enable configurations to meet application requirements.
The ISOFACE dual-channel digital isolator family provides two data channels in a narrow-body DSO-8 package, supporting data rates of up to 40Mbits per second and ensuring signal integrity over the operating temperature range and across the production spread. CT technology guarantees high immunity to system noise with a CMTI of more than 100kV per microsecond, reported Infineon. The digital isolator family withstands up to 3000V RMS isolation voltage, for reliable system operation in noisy environments with predictable data communication.
The devices’ structure enables higher system efficiency in simplified, high power density designs with low power consumption and accurate timing performance, continued the company. Both high and low default output state options are available. Features such as glitch filtering, communication modulation, watchdog and undervoltage lockout (UVLO) ensure robust and failsafe data transmission even in a critical industrial environments with high voltages and noise. Isolation is according to stringent standards, such as UL-1577 and IEC 60747-17 (VDE 0884-17) at the component level, and system certifications, such as IEC 62368-1.
The ISOFACE dual-channel digital isolators are available in a DSO-8 package and can be ordered now. Infineon also announced that later this year, it will add four-channel digital isolators qualified for industrial and automotive applications.
