Recom packs high density medical grade DC/DC in miniature package
A 60W board mount DC/DC converter has been released by Recom, showcasing its high power density DC/DC technology, said the company.
The REM60-W has medical grade isolation and is available with two input ranges, namely 9.0 to 36V DC, and 18 to 75V DC. Each has a selection of tightly regulated single and dual outputs: 5V, 5.1V, 12V, 15V, 24V +/-12V, and +/-15V. The case size of the DC/DC is just 2.3 x 1.5 x 0.5 inches (57.9 x 36.8 x 12.7mm) for what is claimed to be industry-leading power density for a 60W part. Efficiency peaks at over 90 per cent and the DC/DCs operate to 105 degrees C ambient with derating. The REM60-4824SW model, for example operates at 83 degreeC at full 60W output power with 2m/s airflow.
The REM60-W series has reinforced / 2MOPP isolation and is rated 5kV AC per minute for 250V AC working voltage. Creepage and clearance distance from input to output is more than 8mm. Patient leakage current is 4.5 microA maximum to suit medical B, BF, and CF applications.
Medical safety certifications include IEC/EN 60601-1 3rd edition as well as ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 and CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60601-1:14 for the North American markets. The parts are also compliant with EN 60601-1-2 for EMI immunity for medical equipment. IEC/UL/EN 62368-1 certifications are also held for the IT/multimedia markets and EMC standards EN 55032 Class A and B can be met with a simple external filter.
The REM60-W series operates at up to 5000m altitude and for a pollution degree 2 (PD2) environment. It is reliable, at over 1Mhrs MTBF according to MIL-HDBK-217F, 25°C, ground benign conditions.
The REM60-W series includes an on/off control, remote sense, and output voltage trimming with full protection against over-temperature, output overloads, short circuits and input under-voltage. Operation to zero load is possible and Recom reported that light load efficiency is high and quiescent and standby current is low. Pin-out is industry standard.
The DC/DC converters are covered by a three-year warranty. Samples are available from all authorised distributors, or directly from Recom.
