Eaton’s XLR-LV supercapacitor modules now available from Rutronik

Two supercapacitor modules from Eaton, the XLR-16R2507B-R (16V/ 500F) and XLR-18R0507B-R (18V / 500F) are enhanced versions of the XLR-16R2507-R series. They are characterised by low self-discharge and low leakage current and a longer service life, said the distributor.

They have a capacitance of 500F and operate at 16 or 18V. The modules have IP65 housing and stable performance at operating temperatures between -40 and +85 degrees C, for use in harsh environments. The supercapacitor modules can be used as a stand-alone energy storage device or in combination with batteries to optimise cost, lifetime and uptime. System requirements can range from a micro to MW.

Constructed using extruded aluminium side walls, which can provide improved heat dissipation and mechanical stability, they have a laser-welded internal structure. This is claimed to reduce overall weight and ensure that ESR remains stably low throughout the lifetime and that power density does not decrease even when the component is subjected to shock and vibration over an extended period.

Target applications are automated guided vehicles (AGVs), people movers / passenger transport systems (PTS), industrial emergency power supplies, for PLC, robotics and automation, variable frequency drives (VFDs), generators for starting engines, transportation systems, H2 fuel cell drives and traction inverters.

The Eaton supercapacitors are available now for direct orders via Rutronik’s e-commerce platform.
