Cherry enhances MX switch for “ultimate” design for gamers and professionals
Cherry has introduced its largest MX switch, the MX2A and at the same time has integrated it into a keyboard, the XTRFY K2V2, a customisable gaming keyboard.
The MX2A has smooth actuation for a responsive and satisfying typing experience, said Cherry. The improved acoustics have a pleasant sound profile, added the company, and it has a lifespan of more than 100 million actuations for a long service life.
The MX2A will include the full-size derivatives MX Red, MX Brown, MX Black, MX Speed Silver, MX Silent Red, and RGB variants for each. Cherry pointed out that the MX Blue variant will maintain its distinct clicky character without the lubrication and barrel spring due to technical considerations.
Hyperglide technology guarantees what is claimed to be an industry leading 100 million actuations, and has a smooth actuation due to the factory-applied premium-grade lubricant on the newly shaped, radius convexed and diamond polished socket dome. The automated, high precision ring lubrication process also minimises spring noise.
The spring design has been changed from cylindrical to barrel geometry for near-contactless linear movement, reducing spring deformation and scratching in this long-lasting switch, explained Cherry. The updated spring-centring stem has a “crown” of ribs which ensures a more precise and consistent feel and sound, reducing scratchiness and improving sliding properties.
The MX2A has an improved stem guidance system with diamond-polished sliding surfaces in both the lower and upper housing sections for increased smoothness during actuation.
The switch also features the Gold Crosspoint contact system which promises reliable, precise keystrokes and a debounce time of less than one millisecond.
The MX2A is used in the XTRFY K5V2 mechanical keyboard. It is a compact and customisable gaming keyboard, based on the popular K5 keyboard. Everything from the switches, stabilisers and keycaps, the cable, frame and even the logo plate is swappable, for custom design.
The K5V2 also comes with super-scan technology, scanning all keys every half a millisecond for faster detection of keystrokes. It also has strip LED RGB lighting and has a metal plate construction, double layers of sound-dampening foam and pre-lubed PCB-mounted stabilisers. The keyboard features per-key customisable RGB illumination, macros and media controls. All settings are made using the keys, no software needed.
The MX2A is available now for business to business orders and will later be sold separately to end customers. The XTRFY K5V2 is expected to be available later this year.
