Top-side cooling power amplifier modules reduce size and weight of radio units
Three Airfast power amplifier modules by NXP Semiconductors are now available from Richardson RFPD. The modules enable smaller, thinner and light 5G radio units, said the company.
Richardson RFPD offers full design support for the power amplifier modules. All three are fully integrated Doherty power amplifier modules designed for wireless infrastructure applications that demand high performance but where space is limited. They are suitable for applications in massive MIMO systems, outdoor small cells and low power remote radio heads.
Richardson RFPD said the family of top-side cooled RF amplifier modules features a packaging innovation designed to enable smaller, thinner and lighter radio units, supporting faster and easier deployment of 5G base stations.
The modules are designed for 32T32R, 200W radios covering 3.3 to 3.8GHz. The devices combine NXP’s in-house LDMOS and GaN semiconductor technologies to enable high gain and efficiency with wideband performance, delivering 31dB gain and 46 per cent efficiency over 400MHz of instantaneous bandwidth. The A5M34TG140-TC has an operating range of 3300 to 3670GHz, the A5M35TG140-TC has a bandwidth of 3400 to 3600GHz and the A5M36TG140-TC operates across the 3400 to 3800GHz band.
Evaluation boards are also available.
