Industrial STT-MRAMs include 4Mbit capacity in smaller footprint
Everspin Technologies has added a 4Mbit capacity memory to its EMxxLX family of industrial STT-MRAM devices. It is in a smaller footprint package than earlier versions and has an extended industrial temperature range of 105 degrees C.
The MRAM (magnetoresistive random access memory) persistent memory devices in the EMxxLX family is designed for electronic systems where data persistence and integrity, low power, low latency and security are paramount, such as industrial IoT, network / enterprise infrastructure, process automation and control, aeronautics / avionics, medical, gaming and FPGA configuration.
The industry’s first xSPI serial interface based on Everspin’s STT-MRAM technology is believed to be the only commercially available persistent memory with a full read and write bandwidth of 400Mbytes per second via eight I/O signals with a clock frequency of 200MHz. The extended EMxxLX family of devices is characterised by performance, endurance and retention, said Everspin. They are now available in densities from four to 64Mbits with new, smaller packaging for the four to 16Mbit products.
The new 5.0 x 6.0mm DFN package is an area savings of 37 per cent over the existing offering. Everspin has also extended the temperature range from -40 to +105 degrees C. The EMxxLX family can replace alternative devices, such as SRAM, BBSRAM, FRAM, NVSRAM, and NOR flash devices, said the company.
“In the fast-growing Industrial IoT and embedded systems markets, customers, more than ever, need to protect critical system data under all conditions, particularly in the event of power loss and without concern for wear out or data integrity issues,” said Sanjeev Aggarwal, president, and CEO of Everspin Technologies. “With the addition of a 4Mbit capacity option, our MRAM devices provide even more options to select the optimal density solutions. They continue to deliver extremely high endurance, remain compatible with other memory types, and offer ease of integration into customers’ designs,” he added.
Everspin is now sampling the 4Mb capacity option with the smaller DFN package, with production planned for the first quarter of 2024. The 8Mbit to 64Mbit capacity options with the extended temperature range are available for production orders now.
