Bel Fuse introduces railway power supply in compact form factor
Bel Fuse is introducing the RCM500E, the second generation of its 500 W DC-DC power supply family, delivering a smaller, more efficient, and cost-effective option, specifically engineered for railway applications, such as rolling stock equipment. The RCM500E provides a compact power conversion platform that helps rail equipment manufacturers optimise space and improve overall system efficiency.
At 830 cm³, it is nearly 60% smaller than comparable converters, making it one of the smallest 500 W DC-DC converters on the market compliant with EN 50155. This compact design allows engineers flexibility when integrating power solutions into rolling stock systems where space constraints are critical. The converter is also optimised for high-volume manufacturing, featuring a low through-hole (THT) component count and a simplified assembly process.
The RCM500E includes low and short inrush currents, helping prevent unintended circuit breaker tripping in the event of supply voltage interruptions. It’s low idle power consumption minimises unnecessary battery drain, supporting improved energy management in rail systems.
Built for demanding environments, the converter is designed to handle heavy industrial loads and harsh operating conditions. It includes constant current limitation and full protection with automatic recovery, ensuring reliable operation even during fault conditions. The product is available in two models with 72 V or 110 V input and 24 V output, providing flexibility for common railway power architectures.
