AC/DC medical-grade power supply is compact
Open frameAC/DC power supplies from Tumbler Technologies and TrumPower have a low profile to address 500W medical applications.
The MSM500 series are supplied as an open frame PCB in a low profile (1.38-inch) 5.0 x 3.0-inch ( 127 x 76mm) form factor. It delivers 508.6W of continuous output power with 25 CFM of user-provided forced air cooling or 240W at convection cooling. It offers a single output of 12, 15, 19, 24, 30, 36 or 48V at efficiencies up to 92 per cent, depending on the model, says TrumPower.
The power supply can withstand voltages of 4,000V AC from input to output and 2,000V AC from input to ground. The power supply unit is equipped with remote on/off capabilities and 5.0V standby and fan power with a no load power consumption of 1.0W typically. The series has an earth leakage current measuring 100 microA maximum at 240V AC, 60Hz.
Operating at a 90 to 264V AC universal input, the series supports a range of environmental conditions including operating altitudes up to 5,000m and operating temperatures between -40 to +70 degrees C ambient, while derating linearly from 100 per cent load at +50 degrees C to 50 per cent load at +70 degrees C.
The power supplies are equipped with standard over-voltage, over-load, and short circuit protection. Minimum mean time between failure (MTBF) is 200,000 hours at full load, 25 degrees C ambient, calculated per MIL-HDBK-217F.
The TSM500 is approved to the latest medical standards, including IEC/EN/UL 60601-1 Edition 3.1, ANSI/AAMI ES 60601-1: 2012, and CSA C22.2 No. 60601-1: 2014. The PCB power supply complies with IEC/EN 60601-1-2 4th edition medical EMC and immunity standards including FCC/VCCI class B (conducted and radiated emissions), EN 61000-3-2, EN 61000-3-3, EN 61000-4-2, EN61000-4-3, EN 61000-4-4, EN 61000-4-5, EN 61000-4-6, EN 61000-4-8, and EN 61000-4-11.
