Amphenol RF introduces 2.92mm connector for HF measurement and comms

A 2.92mm interface has been introduced by Amphenol RF to enable precision measurements up to 40GHZ. It is suitable for precision laboratory use and satellite communications (satcom) applications and quantum computing, advised the company.

The 2.92mm, or K, connector interface is the latest addition to Amphenol RF’s portfolio of RF interconnect options. The connector series is engineered to offer low VSWR (voltage standing wave ratio) and “excellent” return and insertion loss, along with high power handling capabilities. K or 2.92mm connectors can mate with SMA, 3.5mm and other K or 2.92mm interconnects. Operating at frequencies up to 40GHz, the connector series is suitable for a variety of applications including test and measurement, military and microwave applications.

The design of 2.92mm connectors are similar to the SMA interface but use a smaller internal body diameter and a specially-designed air dielectric which allows them to operate at a higher frequency range. The male pin is shorter than both an SMA and 3.5mm connector. The design is such that the bodies of the male and female connectors engage before the pin and socket contacts which mitigates wear from mating misalignment with dissimilar interfaces.

The rugged construction includes a threaded coupling mechanism for secure and reliable mating, added Amphenol RF. Both the jack and plug are manufactured with gold-plated, stainless steel bodies and gold-plated, beryllium copper contacts. The connectors also meet MIL-STD-348 standards.

Amphenol RF is a leading manufacturer of coaxial connectors for use in radio frequency, microwave, and data transmission system applications. The company is headquartered in Danbury, Connecticut, USA and has sales, marketing and manufacturing locations in North America, Asia and Europe.

Standard products include RF connectors, coaxial adapters and RF cable assemblies. Custom engineered products include multi-port ganged interconnect, blind mate and hybrid mixed-signal solutions.
