binder launches new triangular moulding for cable connectors

binder has launched a specially developed triangular moulding, which is now being used for the first time in revised M16 cable connectors as well as in M12 K- and L-coded cable connectors.

The new moulding geometry combines functional advantages with a clearly distinctive design and improves both the mechanical resilience and the handling of the connectors.

binder’s new triangular moulding ensures optimised force distribution in the transition area between cable and connector. Thanks to its geometry, bending and tensile forces are dissipated more evenly. At the same time, anti-twist protection is enhanced, further improving the mechanical stability of the connection.

These design features help to increase the service life of the connectors even under demanding operating conditions.

In addition to its mechanical benefits, the triangular moulding also improves ergonomic handling. Its structured geometry provides users with a better grip during assembly and disassembly. Furthermore, the shape reduces potential dirt traps in the connection area. This makes the connectors easier to clean – a particular advantage in industrial environments exposed to dust, oil or other contaminants.

The triangular moulding is used, among other products, in the M16 cable connectors of series 425. These are designed for industrial applications and provide a robust connection for signal transmission in machinery and equipment.

The connectors are available with 3 to 12 contacts and support rated voltages of up to 150 V as well as rated currents of up to 3 A. Thanks to protection classes IP67 and IP68 in the mated and locked condition, they are also suitable for demanding environments involving dust, moisture or splash water. The contacts are gold-plated to ensure reliable electrical performance.

The cable connectors are available in both shielded and unshielded versions and are moulded directly onto the PUR cable. Standard cable lengths of 2 m and 5 m are available, with other lengths possible on request.

Its development presented several challenges for the design engineers. Particular emphasis was placed on precise tool design, controlled material flow during the injection process and the prevention of air inclusions, without compromising the electrical and mechanical properties of the connectors.

Connectors with triangular moulding are designed for numerous industrial applications. Typical fields of use include:
• automation technology
• mechanical and plant engineering
• robotics
• conveyor technology
• packaging industry
• measurement and sensor technology
