Bourns unveils its highest current carrying PTVS diode in compact package
A bi-directional PTVS (power transient voltage suppressor) diode family by Bourns features 20kA, eight / 20 microsecond surge handling capability with low clamping voltage of 15V. The PTVS20-015C-H is available in a compact surface mount DFN package.
According to Bourns, the PTVS20-015C-H PTVS diode delivers effective electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection in applications that require high power DC line protection. The PTVS diode meets IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 ESD protection requirements. It also features low clamping voltage at peak pulse current and assists in meeting IEC 61000-4-5 eight / 20 microsecond current surge requirements for lightning protection.
In order to support large currents such as 60kA, designers typically have had to connect many devices with low current handling capability in parallel, explained Bourns. With a single device capable of handling 20kA, however, fewer devices can be connected in parallel to achieve the same desired protection level using the PTVS20-015C-H. This reduces the total bill of materials (Bom) count and can help save valuable space on the PCB, added Bourns.
The Bourns Model PTVS20-015C-H is available now and is RoHS-compliant and halogen-free.
Bourns manufactures and supplies position and speed sensors, circuit protection solutions, magnetic components, microelectronic modules, panel controls and resistive products.
