CMOS SuperFlash Technology

Manufactured with Microchip’s, CMOS SuperFlash technology, a split-gate cell design and thick-oxide tunnelling injector for better reliability and manufacturability, the SST38VF6401B is a parallel Flash memory that conforms to JEDEC device standard pin assignments for x16 memories.

What is SuperFlash Technology?

SuperFlash is an innovative, highly reliable and versatile type of NOR Flash memory invented by Silicon Storage Technology (SST). SuperFlash memory is much more flexible and reliable than competing non-volatile memories.

This technology utilizes a split-gate cell architecture which uses a robust thick-oxide process that requires fewer mask steps resulting in a lower-cost non-volatile memory solution with excellent data retention and higher reliability.

Fast Read Capabilities

The 4M x16 CMOS Advanced Multi-Purpose Flash Plus (Advanced MPF+) device has an operating voltage range from 2.7 to 3.6V, fast read and programme times, and advanced protection, says the company. The memory is partitioned into uniform 32kword and non-uniform 8kword blocks, claimed to result in erase capabilities and seamless partitioning for programme code and data.

The parallel Flash memory has random read access time of 70ns; page read access time of 25ns; erasing sectors and blocks down to 18ms and erasure of the entire Flash memory chip in 40ms. The word-programming time is 7µs and write-buffer programming is 1.75µs, typical.

The device offers 100,000 endurance cycles, typical, and greater than 100 years of data retention. The active read current of these devices is only 25mA, typical, at 5MHz, and standby current is only 5µA, typical.

The device also provides Security-ID, hardware boot-block protection, individual block protection, password protection, and irreversible block locking.

Applications include set-top boxes, multi-functional printers, digital TVs, as well as audio, video and infotainment for automobiles. It can also be used in networking and industrial applications, such as gateways, switches and industrial control equipment.

The memory is supplied in 48pin TSSOP and 48-ball TFBGA packages.
