CompactPCI serial carrier board provides 5G for rail applications
Designed for communication in embedded rail and other sectors subject to harsh environments, the G239 is a rugged CompactPCI Serial carrier board that provides 5G mobile communication to 19-inch systems.
Duagon has equipped the interface board with three slots for wireless functionality, i.e., two M.2 slots for 5G and one PCI Express Mini Card slot for WLAN. For 5G mobile communication the board is equipped with eight QLS antenna connectors (four connectors for each M.2 card) as well as up to three QLS antenna connectors for WLAN functionality. Additionally, a high-precision GNSS receiver is available, which can be used to track accurate locating, for example.
In the train communication system architecture, the G239 is typically located at the front end where it communicates directly with a cellular network. It features eight microSIM card slots which can contribute to reductions in roaming costs when operating trains across borders. This also allows them to have as much data volume available as possible (by switching to the next SIM card when the volume is used up) or it can be used to optimise the connection by choosing the provider with the best network coverage in the region through which the train is passing.
There is also a user-friendly software tool for interacting with the interface board. This allows the user to remotely control which microSIM cards are connected to the modems. It also allows them to remotely power reset each modem.
Based on the CompactPCI Serial standard, the board is future-proof with high-speed serial interfaces, said Duagon.
The G239 is designed for operating temperatures of -40 to +85 degrees C and is provided with a conformal coating, ensuring reliable operation in harsh and mobile environments, said Duagon. Long-term availability ensures an extended product life, the company added.
The G239 is suitable for internet on board, general back office communications, live CCTV to control centres or predictive maintenance.
