A DC-to-DC converter is an electronic circuit which converts a source of direct current (DC) from one voltage level to another. It is a class of power converter.
With thousands to choose from, the RS range of DC-DC Converters is sure to have what you need. From isolated and non-isolated DC-DC Converters, portable car power adaptors and switching regulators from top brands like TRACOPOWER, Recom and Murata Power Solutions.
Importance Across Formats
DC to DC converters are important in portable electronic devices such as mobile phones and laptop computers, which are supplied with power from batteries primarily. Such electronic devices often contain several sub-circuits, each with its own voltage level requirement different from that supplied by the battery or an external supply (sometimes higher or lower than the supply voltage). Additionally, the battery voltage declines as its stored power is drained. Switched DC to DC converters offer a method to increase voltage from a partially lowered battery voltage thereby saving space instead of using multiple batteries to accomplish the same thing.
Most DC to DC converters also regulate the output voltage. Some exceptions include high-efficiency LED power sources, which are a kind of DC to DC converter that regulates the current through the LEDs, and simple charge pumps which double or triple the output voltage.
Available now from MicroPower Direct, the MG200MHI compact, 2W DC/DC converters are approved to both EN 60950 and EN 60601. They are specifically designed to meet the isolation, reinforced insulation and low leakage requirements of medical grade equipment. They are also RoHS-compliant.
There are 15 models which operate from 5, 12 and 24V DC inputs, providing single and dual outputs of 5, 12, 15, ±12, or ±15V DC. Standard features include an I/O isolation of 4,000V AC rms, 2µA maximum leakage current, and tight regulation. The MTBF (per MIL HDBK 217F) is greater than 2Mhours. The converters are supplied in a miniature surface mount case, with an industry-standard pin-out. Each model is specified -25 to +80°C (ambient).
