Digi-Key expansion continues
Distributor, Digi-Key Electronics, is expanding its site and capacity. The 1,000,000 square foot building expansion (pictured) is to be located next to its current headquarters in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA.
This will double its present facilities area. To date, the parking lot for the new facility has been completed and building work is expected to begin in April this year for completion at the end of 2019. The first package will be shipped by the end of 2012/beginning of 2022.
Digi-Key was established in 1972 and has grown to be one of the largest distributors serving the electronics industry. It already process over four million orders a year and keeps over 1.3 million products in stock
It is consistently ranked high in industry surveys in North America, Europe and Asia, for product availability, speed of service and responsiveness. Annual sales for 2017 were in excess of $1.843 billion.
Digi-Key is an authorised distributor of electronic components for more than 650 suppliers. To reduce the level of counterfeit product on the market, Digi-Key gained membership in ECIA (Electronic Components Industry Association) in North America, ECSN (Electronic Component Supply Network) in the United Kingdom, and CEDA (China Electronics Distributor Alliance) in China.
At any given time, more than one million products are in stock and ready to be shipped from the Thief River Falls headquarters – this means there are no lead times, says Digi-Key, and 99 per cent of orders shipping on the same day.
Over the next 10 years, the additional capacity will add over 1000 new jobs. Digi-Key currently employs 3,200 employees in Minnesota.
