Environmentally-sealed 250V DC connectors are reliable in harsh conditions
Rectangular power connectors available from Bulgin are intended for demanding cable-to-cable applications. The connector and component manufacturer has announced two-, three-, four-, six-, eight- and 12-pole versions, with a high current rating of 13A.
The connectors have a robust construction that is claimed to ensure continued reliability in harsh operational environments. The use of silicone rubber seals means that these connectors conform to IP68 and IP69K standards, offering protection against the ingress of water and dust. They also comply with EN60068-2-52, making them suitable for marine deployments.
The mouldings consist of polybutylene terephthalate with embedded polyamide glass fibre reinforcements. Contacts are made of copper alloy, with either nickel or gold plating specified. Wires can be 14AGW to 20AWG diameter and there are optional, added features also available, including enhanced seal retention capabilities, protective end caps, shrink boot adapters, welded flanges and terminating resistors. Y-type connector terminations are also offered, for automotive implementations.
The connectors support from 100 mating cycles and have an operational temperature range of -40 to +120 degrees C. Wedge-locks are supplied for greater contact retention, resulting in the ability to withstand forces of 111N. An insulation resistance of over 1000MOhm (at 500V DC) prevents leakage current, says Bulgin.
Bulgin manufactures a range of rugged connectors, fuse holders, battery holders, switches and indicators designed for use in the most challenging of environments. The company is headquartered in Cambridge, UK, and has offices in all key global regions and an extensive sales and distribution network spanning 65 countries. Its manufacturing facilities are based in the UK and Tunisia.
