Fast-reacting TVS diodes for sensitive electronic systems, the 5.0SMDJ by Yageo, is available from Rutronik.
The latest addition to the distributor’s portfolio of qualitative surge protection components is made of a high-reliability DO-214AB package and has a power handling capacity which ensures higher protection of the circuits. They also have a short response time and absorb high voltage peaks – caused by lightning strikes, for example – and prevent failures or system malfunctions. The series includes uni- or bi-directional variants and specially certified automotive versions.
The diodes have 5,000W peak pulse power at 10 / 1000 microseconds waveform. They are equipped with built-in strain relief and passivated glass junction and are encased in a DO-214AB low-profile plastic housing. The operating voltage of the TVS ranges from 5.0 to 600V. They has a repetition rate of 0.01 per cent and a fast response. They also feature clamping capability and low inductance, as well as the typical IR of less than 2 microA. The terminals tolerate high temperature soldering at 260 degrees C for 10 seconds. Reverse cut off voltage is 11V to around 170V.
The TVS diodes meet MSL 1 according to J-STD-020, enable compliance with IEC61000-4-2 ESD protection standards of up to 30KV air and contact discharge. They are also available in automotive grade (5.0SMDJ-AT) with AEC-Q101 qualification.
The diodes are halogen-free, RoHS-compliant, and guarantee near-optimal performance in applications such as telecomms equipment, industrial equipment, or energy storage.
Potential applications are I/O interfaces, AC/DC power supplies, low frequency signal transmission line (RS232, RS485) and automotive.
